Los Angeles Forum Ends Year with a Bang for Hispanic BIC
BIC Forums

On November 19, 2009 the Hispanic BIC conducted the fifth in a national series of Hispanic Business Forums at the Center at Cathedral Plaza in Los Angeles. The Forum attracted over 120 local small business owners, aspiring entrepreneurs and Hispanic leaders to network and learn about proven business practices and potential business opportunities from a Latino perspective.

The L.A. Forum featured nationally recognized panelists Hector Barreto, Chairman of the Latino Coalition and former SBA Administrator; Martha de la Torre, Publisher of El Clasificado; Captain Christopher Brady of the U.S. Army; and Alberto Alvarado, District Director of the SBA. Topics of discussion included trends in small business procurement and social networking, as well as the U.S. Latino market. For more information please contact Rovi Sharp at [email protected]. The Forum was sponsored by Western Union, U.S. Army, Microsoft, U.S. Department of Labor, Nissan USA and El Clasificado.

Hispanic BIC Sponsor PaYS Up!

ARMY PAYSThe U.S. Army, a Platinum Sponsor of the Hispanic BIC, has started a program to jumpstart the careers of discharged soldiers after their service. Called Army PaYS (Partnership for Youth Success), the program has two major components: a roster of leading employers in the private sector who have committed their support, along with a database that matches new enlistees with job skills at these partnering businesses.

After a soldier completes his or her duties, they are provided a contact at the partner company (designated at enlistment), followed by an employment  interview. Potential recruits gain confidence in their post-service employment prospects, while business partners benefit greatly with the opportunity to acquire highly-trained, disciplined workers. Companies like Anheuser Busch, Comcast, State Farm, Wells Fargo Bank and more than 300 other corporations, government entities, and small businesses have committed to helping our soldiers after they serve our country. Visit www.armypays.com or go to www.HispanicBIC.org and click the link in the top-right banner to learn more about PaYS benefits.
