The third in a series of national Hispanic Business Forums, this must-attend event features speakers from the U.S. Small Business Administration, Impact-O, the U.S. Army, and the Denver Economic Development Office. Successful Hispanic Business Forum Draws Over 120 Leaders in NYC
BIC Forums - NYC 2009

The Hispanic BIC hosted a Hispanic Business Forum in New York City during the New York State Federation of Hispanic Chambers of Commerce annual Expo. The Forum and EXPO were a huge success, with more than 120 business, community, and government leaders in attendance including U.S. Representative for New York’s 14th district Carolyn Maloney and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Roundtable panelists included: Paul Quintero, CFO and COO of ACCION USA; Sergio Fernandez de Cordova, founder of Fuel Outdoors a national Hispanic outdoor advertising firm; Capt. Esther S. Marcella, Commander of the Long Island Army Recruiting Office; and Paul Taravella, industrial specialist for the SBA’s New York City District Office.

New York City’s 130,000 Hispanic entrepreneurs now have access to the Hispanic BIC website that will assist in the economic development of the Hispanic community.

Hispanic BIC at NCLR
The Hispanic BIC participated in the recent NCLR (National Council of La Raza) Conference in Chicago. Approximately 20,000 attended the Latino Expo USA and Health Fair. At the event, the Hispanic BIC in partnership with Latin View interviewed the Chair of the House Small Business Committee, Rep. Nydia Velasquez (See Interview) and unveiled a Hispanic BIC Kiosk.  The Hispanic BIC also met with hundreds of business and non profit leaders from around the country on the importance of Hispanic entrepreneurship and had an opportunity to demonstrate the Hispanic BIC website. Introducing the BIC’s Sister Sites

Funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), and supported by Our World, Our Family, Western Union’s $50 million initiative to empower communities around the world, the Hispanic BIC has developed three regional websites that serve Northwest Florida, Finger Lakes New York and Piedmont Triad North Carolina. The DOL pilot project has found success by working closely with local Workforce Development agencies and promoting entrepreneurship as a pathway toward wealth and job creation. Judge Sotomayor: The Nation’s First Hispanic Supreme Court Justice
Please join the Hispanic BIC in celebrating the nomination, confirmation and swearing in of Justice Sonia Sotomayor as the nation’s first Hispanic Supreme Court justice, and the third woman in court history. Sotomayor, the daughter of Puerto Rican parents, brings a wealth of experience including 17 years as a federal judge. USHCC Annual Convention & Expo: Sept 16-19 in Denver, CO
