Chicago Business Forums

The Hispanic BIC kicks off its 2009 Hispanic Business Forums on June 30 at Mi Tierra Restaurant in Chicago’s Little Village. The response to this highly anticipated event has been overwhelming. The forum – where business, political and community leaders meet to discuss business issues and priorities for Hispanic entrepreneurs – is sponsored by founding sponsor Western Union, founding technology sponsor Microsoft, the U.S. Army and Nissan North America, in collaboration with local Hispanic organizations. The Hispanic BIC will gather input from Hispanic Business Forums in several key U.S. cities and share information with policymakers to influence future legislation. BIC Forums - NYC 2009 The Hispanic BIC will partner with the New York State Federation of Hispanic Chambers of Commerce to host a Hispanic Business Forum on August 6 at Casa Puebla in Manhattan. Look for details in the Hispanic BIC’s July e-newsletter.
Hispanic BIC Points Latinas to Financing Resources
The Hispanic BIC was a participant in MANA’s 2009 Latina Health and Wealth Educational & Training Conference, held this past May in Arlington, VA. The Hispanic BIC and State Farm Insurance provided guidance to Latina entrepreneurs on accessing local capital to start and grow a business. Entrepreneurs who use the Hispanic BIC can easily access information on various financing resources in many major Hispanic markets by visiting the MONEY and Local Resources sections of the website.

Last month Hispanic BIC President Michael Barrera, a board member of the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation, attended the organization’s 8th Annual Family Heritage Awards, which recognizes immigrants or their descendents who have made a major contribution to the American experience. The honorees recognized on May 19 include iconic quarterback Joe Namath; Nobel laureate Dr. Eric R. Kandel; comedian and producer Jerry Seinfeld; and music superstars Gloria and Emilio Estefan, the first Hispanic honorees. Each shared stories of how life as an immigrant or descendent impacted their success.

Microsoft Launches Bing
Bing.com This May, Microsoft Corporation unveiled Bing, a new Decision Engine, specifically designed to help users go beyond search to make faster, more informed decisions. Bing focuses initially on four key areas: making a purchase decision, planning a trip, researching a health condition or finding a local business.
